Georgia FOG & Grease Trap Rules
Georgia requirements below apply to local programs in Fulton County, DeKalb County, and Savannah; they are not a single statewide schedule.
Fulton County
Commercial waste generators with grease, oil, or sand traps discharging to county sanitary sewers must register online and obtain a Commercial Waste Discharge Permit. The county pretreatment program monitors and inspects these discharges.
DeKalb County
A state-permitted transporter must perform maintenance. FOG depth must remain below 20% of total operating depth. The hauler leaves a FOG manifest, and the completed manifest is due to the county FOG program within two weeks of maintenance. DeKalb’s program includes inspections, monitoring, and enforcement.
Savannah
Savannah requires an interceptor when the city administrator or Chatham County Health determines one is needed. New facilities need a city-approved interceptor that is accessible for cleaning and inspection. Starting January 2, 2026, FOG permit applications, renewals, payments, and manifests use the online SwiftWorks portal. Violations can lead to applicable penalties or denial or discontinuance of service.
